This class will introduce you to the world of craft beer. You’ll get the information you need to go into any craft brewery and confidently know what to order, and when you do order it, what went into making it. The following topics will be covered in this introductory class:

  1. History of Beer
  2. Brewing ingredients and process
  3. Beer statistics — What do all those numbers mean? (ABV, SRM, IBU)
  4. Beer styles — Is there a difference between a porter and a stout? A lager and an ale?
  5. Tasting techniques — This is the fun part! — We will try a variety of different beer styles.
  6. Glassware — Does the glass really matter?
  7. Beer and Food pairing — what goes well with the meal I am serving my guests?
  8. The class will be lead by Grant Saylor, Bellevue native and co-owner of Lincoln Avenue Brewery. He grew up in Bellevue and has lived here all but a few short years when his job took him and his family to Philadelphia.

Grant’s entire career has revolved around the hospitality industry. Early days as a chef led to managing large corporate contracts for cafes and catering across many states while always gravitating back to the kitchen to fill the need to create. He spent the 14 years prior to opening the brewery as a District Manager for Starbucks Coffee Company where he managed stores in WV, PA and OH.

Craft beer has been a passion for Grant since the early days discovering Sam Adams, Bells, Sierra Nevada and others. He soon discovered that he could make beer with minimal upfront investment and that it could be another canvas on which to create tasty things.

Lincoln Avenue Brewery opened in July of 2019 in the heart of Bellevue. The brewery is creating a wide variety of craft beers and pairs them with amazing in-house, locally-procured food.

    This event is fully booked.
