Thai Tamarind

[tab title=”Overview”]

In the fall of 2015 Chef Ken Suksawatnam and his wife Nadia Yaibua moved to Bellevue from Florida to breathe new life into Thai Tamarind whose former owner was starting a new restaurant. Ken had over 20 years experience as a chef and owned a business that he sold before moving north. Ken had friends in Pittsburgh, had always liked the city, and jumped at the chance to run a Thai restaurant here. Both Ken and Nadia were raised in Thailand, but they met in Florida where Ken had lived for 16 years and Nadia for five years.

In addition to Thai standards such as Pad Thai, curries, and the dessert Sticky Rice with Mango, you can find Japanese-inspired Katsu, Chinese-inspired Orange Chicken, and the American-style Soft Shell Crab Wrap with a specialty house mayo sauce. Everything is beautifully presented.  This writer particularly recommends the Amazing Eggplant entree and the Cheese Cake Tempura dessert, along with a large assortment of delicious appetizers. The restaurant is BYOB and charges only a small corkage fee.  Ken loves to study cooking, and you will often find daily specials that reflect his interest in offering unique dishes.

Ken also has a background in interior design.  He used his design experience to create and install a new canopy with a decorative trim over the counter, adding to the restaurant’s charm. The restaurant is warm and inviting with excellent service. If the main floor fills up, there is extra space on the lower level that seats 25 people. The space can also be used for parties. If you’re having an off-site party or just want to eat at home, consider the catering or take-out  options.

Stop in and say hello to Ken and Nadia!
