The Man Cave Barber Shop

[tab title=”Overview”]I enjoy reading business signs as I stroll home from work – announcements for upcoming Art Gallery shows, festivals, spaghetti dinners, and the like. Sometimes I borrow a dinner idea from a restaurant’s sidewalk sign. Oftentimes I pick up the pace as I pass signs that temptingly beckon me inside to purchase “donuts $7.95/doz.,” or “50% off all items in the store.” Recently I stopped dead in my tracks when I read a sign announcing “Father and Daughter Hair Care Class.” What an innovative and brilliant idea!

So I stopped in to chat with Nancy Elsesser, Owner of The Man Cave for the past four years and whose idea it is to offer this unique class. I suspect it will be a much welcome class for single dads, weekend visitation dads, or dads charged with getting their young daughters ready for school.

When I asked Nancy what prompted her to create the Father and Daughter Class, Nancy replied, “I see fathers with their daughters at the shop and realized that many of the fathers could benefit from this type of class.” The Father and Daughter Class will cover the basics of how to properly and gently brush, style, create a basic braid and ponytail. Supplies such as brushes, combs, barrettes, and hair bands will be included with the class fee. Course date is to be determined and depends upon the response she receives. The course is planned to be 1.5 to 2 hours in length on a Saturday afternoon.

Another of her innovative and creative touches is a child’s styling station complete with child-sized chair where Super Hero posters line the walls surrounding the station. To keep little ones occupied while Nancy tends to their fathers’ hair, a colorful child’s table and chairs, crayons and coloring books sit in the front of the store under the watchful gaze of Muhammad Ali and Jimi Hendrix. The table, she tells me with a smile, “belonged to my son who told me after I borrowed it that it was OK, I could buy him a new one.”

A beautician/barber for 33 years, Nancy apprenticed under an elderly Italian barber, Guiseppe Trapanni, in his shop in Hampton Township. She has owned or operated in multiple shops over the course of the years before purchasing The Man Cave. Nancy cuts, styles, trims beards, and provides shaves.

Online reviews are extremely favorable: “Great cut very friendly!!!! The owner definitely knows what she is doing and she does it well!!!!!!!!” “My girlfriend and I get our hair cut there and we always have had a great experience. Nancy is great! thanks again.” The Shop is a Man Cave, with a subtle feminine touch to it.
Stop by and say hello to Nancy – she will be happy to show you around her shop.
