A panel of experts will cover a variety of topics related to starting a business and making it a success.

Topics will include:

  • Key aspects of current business conditions being tracked in Bellevue, how Bellevue compares with other downtowns, how mapping and metrics can be used to better understand important downtown dynamics, and resources available to help businesses create attractive, appealing, and architecturally appropriate façades.
  • 7 different non-bank business funding options and free Pittsburgh area business support services.
  • Marketing startups and businesses in the North Boroughs, including branding, best practices in print design, web design, social media and local marketing.
  • Bellevue ordinances relating to signage, zoning, sidewalk usage, and taxes.


  • Mark Peluso is the managing principal of Town Center Associates and is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality of its programs and services. He has over 20 years of experience in business district planning and development.
  • Bethany Arneson is the Community Outreach Liaison for Kiva Pittsburgh, which has served Pittsburgh for 4 years and funded over $1.1 million in loans. She regularly works with other local small business finance representatives and service providers, including organizing the successful Think Beyond the Bank alternative funding panels.
  • R.J. Thompson is a principal of +Public, a local Bellevue-based communication design agency and Assistant Professor of Graphic and Interactive Design at Youngstown State University.
  • Teri Howells Godkin has worked with Bellevue’s Code Enforcement Office since 2005. She received her International Property Maintenance Code Certification in 2009 and has been certified in emergency management. She has been trained in fighting blight, residential occupancy, OSHA, energy plan review and inspection, and in other code enforcement areas.
